Flexipoint
Flexipoint is a pre-mixed, pre-coloured, trowel applied, flexible pointing compound that is used to verge point the ridgecaps of cement & terracotta roof tiles.
The product is manufactured and distributed in Australia by Flexitech Pty Ltd, a fully Australian owned company.
Flexipoint is made from water based polymers and fillers and is intended to ‘feel’ like normal cement mortar. It contains no volatile additives and is therefore safe to use. It differs from traditional and inherently brittle cement mortar pointing in that it retains a significant post cure flexibility. This enables it to flex in harmony with roof movements without cracking or breaking away.
The Flexipoint concept has been embraced around Australia since its introduction in 1995 and is still considered the major flexible pointing in use today.
Flexi-point is available in a wide variety of colours, and is easy to use with no mixing required. The product is guaranteed for 10 years from the date of purchase and will not crack or break away from the foundation.
Flexipoint has been tested by the CSIRO to AS2050 Appendix F (Draft) Standard to determine its wind uplift rating. In their conclusion the CSIRO remarked;
“The sample referred to as the Flexipoint tile roof ridge security system was tested to cyclic fatigue loading conditions as per AS2050 Appendix F (Draft) to determine the wind uplift rating of an adhesive mechanical fastening after conditioning in cyclonic areas (C3). The sample system of the Flexipoint tile roof ridge security system successfully passed the test criteria at the design pressure of 8.21kPa.”
