Flexipoint application
Flexipoint is super easy to use on most cement and terracotta tiles. There are only four simple steps that you need to follow to ensure the best application and results each and every time.
Step 1
Bedding cement should be fully trowelled, finished plumb and free of large holes & voids, ensuring no bedding cement residue is left on the edge of the ridge cap interface.
Flexipoint may be applied over a fully cured bedding, or it can be applied over a wet (just laid) bedding – however allow for additional curing time in this situation.
Step 2
Use Flexipoint straight from the bucket. Nothing to add, just stir before using. (It freshens up the mix).
Using a round nose pointing trowel, apply the Flexipoint to the bedded top ridge cap tiles, hip cap tiles, ridge cap collars and gable ends (if required).
Step 3
Flexipoint should be trowelled on at a uniform thickness of 3mm to 5mm, over a recommended 4:1 yellow brick sand / cement bedding mix.
Smooth off the Flexipoint to beautiful steeled finish for that professional appearance.
Step 4
Complete the application by inserting the weep holes once product has cured off sufficiently.
Flexipoint Q and A
HOW FAR DOES A 10 LITRE BUCKET OF FLEXIPOINT GO?
A 10ltr Flexipoint bucket will do approximately 25 lineal metres.
There are 2 ½ (approx) ridgecaps to the metre in which the coverage is both sides of the ridgecapping and the collars.
HOW LONG DOES FLEXIPOINT TAKE TO CURE?
The curing time is about 2-3 hours of good, dry weather but it eventually depends upon the weather, temperature, and humidity on the day.
If the product does get rain damage, it will sag, but should not run down the roof. You should be able to touch up the pointing within a few days once it has dried out.
HOW LONG DOES FLEXIPOINT PLUS TAKE TO CURE?
Flexipoint Plus fully cures within 2 hours and is normally washout resistant by that time.
HOW THICK DO I APPLY FLEXIPOINT ?
The Flexipoint should be applied approximately 3-5mm thick depending if you have holes to plug up in an older roof, in which case you will get less coverage out of the 10 litre bucket.
REMEMBER: The thicker you apply the product, the longer it will take to cure.
DO I NEED TO CLEAN THE ROOF FIRST?
Yes, wipe down with a wire brush, and then broom all loose bits of mortar. The Flexipoint needs a solid surface to stick to.
DO I NEED TO REBED BEFORE I USE FLEXIPOINT?
Theoretically no, it is the pointing that holds the ridgecapping on the roof. The bedding is primarily a filler.
USE/CLEANING OF TROWEL?
Keep your trowel clean. Wipe with a damp rag. DO NOT KEEP THE TROWEL IN THE WATER BUCKET. Water droplets will contaminate the product.
WILL THE FLEXIPOINT CRACK?
No. Flexipoint has been tested as a mechanical fixing under the Australian Standard AS2050.
WHAT IS THE PRODUCT GUARANTEE?
Our product guarantee is 10 years for a new roof. For a repair we match the tradesmen’s workmanship guarantee.
CAN I ADD WATER?
No. Never add water to Flexipoint. If the Flexipoint becomes stiff, give it a brisk stir with the trowel.
ANY TROWELLING TIPS?
Remember to smooth off as you go. Don’t point an entire ridge and then go back to finish off. The pointing will have started to cure.
WHAT ABOUT WEEP-HOLES?
We recommend that weep-holes be put in.
CAN YOU APPLY FLEXIPOINT ON A FIBRO ROOF?
We cannot see why not, however the surface will need to be clean, i.e. free of mould etc. Please note that Flexipoint has never been tested on a fibro roof.
HOW DO YOU HANDLE A TWO TONE ROOF?
Where the ridgecapping is a different colour from the tiles we usually match to the ridgecap colour. However it is the customer’s own choice.
HOW DO I PROTECT MY RAINWATER TANK?
Make sure the tradesman working on your roof disconnects or blocks the downpipes leading to your tank. This disconnection or blockage should remain for 7 days or until after the first rainfall, whichever is the earlier, to reduce the risk of washout contamination.

This pointing calculator is based on using the recommended thickness of 3-5mm during application.
